Charity Rising—Now More Than Ever

New Team to Lead Congregation in its Third Century of Service

Sisters of Charity of New York will install Sister Donna Dodge as President at the Transfer of Leadership ceremony at Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, June 29, 2019. Sister Donna is the 25th president in the Congregation’s history, the first elected in the third century of service. She leaves her position as Executive Director and CEO of Sisters of Charity Housing Development Corporation to assume the office of President.

Two Sisters will serve as Sister Donna’s assistants: Sisters Dorothy Metz and Dominica Rocchio. Both bring extensive leadership experience to their new roles; Sister Dorothy was President from 2003 to 2011, Sister Dominica was Regional Coordinator from 2007 to 2015.

The Congregation will also install four Councilors during the ceremony: Sisters Sheila Brosnan, Margaret Egan, Margaret O’Brien, and Claire Regan. Sisters Margaret O’Brien and Sheila Brosnan currently serve in leadership; Sisters Margaret Egan and Claire Regan assume leadership roles for the first time.

Reflecting on her new role as President, Sister Donna said, “The coming years will bring an ever-increasing need to trust in God’s plan for us, to find creative ways to continue our mission as Sisters of Charity, and to keep the flame of charity rising within each of us, within our Church and our world.”

Election of the new Leadership Team to a four-year term occurred at the quadrennial elections held during Assembly 2019 in March. The new term officially begins on Monday, July 1.

The Congregation extends heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing Leadership Team for their dedicated service: Sister Jane Iannucelli, President; Sister Margaret O’Brien, Assistant to the President; Sisters Sheila Brosnan, Kathleen Byrnes, and Mary Ann Daly, Regional Coordinators.

The Transfer of Leadership is first event in Chapel of the Immaculate Conception since undergoing extensive renovations. Sisters, Associates, Companions, colleagues, friends, and family of new leadership team will attend the event. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.
