We, the Sisters of Charity of New York, extend our heartfelt prayers and support to all children, parents, teachers, school and church staff/administrators, and all members of the Archdiocese of New York as we process the devastating news that twenty Catholic Schools will be unable to open their doors again. We share the shock, disbelief, and pain felt throughout the archdiocese and beyond. Our Sisters, many of whom taught or still volunteer in the affected schools, are deeply saddened by the news. We understand the great difficulties and hardships that forced the school closures, but that does not ease the tremendous sadness felt by so many.
We pray God will guide and bless the families, teachers, school support staff, and, most importantly, the children of the twenty schools.
What are the 20 schools?

I am deeply saddened at this news and the thought that so many of our children will not have the benefit of a faith based education – more important than ever is these difficult times.
Catholic education is the foundation of our church and a pillar of the communities they serve. I shudder to think of the downward spiral which will certainly ensue.
I am sad to hear this news. Sad for the Sisters who put so much into the schools and the lives of the children entrusted to their care, and sad for the future without the education provided in these schools.
A very sad day indeed . Now more than ever we need to fortify children’s catholic eduction and give individuals the tools and faith they need to engage life The NYC catholic schools were the core of each neighborhood as were all the CYO teams how did it all fall apart
Shock, disbelief and pain, indeed.
The lack of any demonstrable empathy signaling any comprehension of the magnitude of these actions from Dolan or his clerics remain their hallmark. Thank you for the lives of your strong vibrant women. Their vocational response has always been the balm that soothes the endless clerical pain in our lay Catholic lives. God bless you all and thank you.
