The Sisters of Charity will host our annual Spring Benefit on Monday, May 2, 2016 —and this year there are a variety of ways for you to join in the fun!
The Spring Benefit is important because it generates crucial support for our ministries. Proceeds will help lift people out of severe poverty at places like Fox House, our East Harlem shelter for homeless mothers and their children; LEFSA (Life Experience and Faith Sharing Association), a spiritual community for homeless adults; and POTS (Part of the Solution) in the Bronx, where people in need receive warm meals along with counseling, legal aid and other essential services.
Funds raised will also help immigrant families at the Sisters of Charity Multi- Service Center (Casa de Esperanza) through ESL and citizenship classes. They will support Seton House, our low-income housing program in East Harlem; Sisters Hill Farm, where our Sisters grow organic food for the community; and our anti-human trafficking efforts, including the recent addition of another “safe house” for victims.
A special highlight of the evening is the recognition of individuals who have made unique contributions to our mission. Receiving the 2016 Flame of Charity Award will be Rev. Msgr. Donald Sakano, pastor of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. Our own Sr. Dominica Rocchio, SC, EdD, will receive the 2016 Grace Strazzire Humanitarian Award. Sister Dominica was a member of the Sisters of Charity Leadership Team from 2008 to 2015. Prior to serving in leadership, Sr. Dominica was Superintendent of Schools and Secretary for Education in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ. Click here to view invitation.
We’d love for you to join us in person as we celebrate Msgr. Sakano and Sr. Dominica on May 2nd. Our 2016 Spring Benefit will be held at the Water Club, 30th Street on the East River in Manhattan, beginning at 6 pm. Festivities will include a reception, 50/50 raffle and silent auction.
Take a chance for a good cause! Even if you cannot attend the benefit in person, you can still enter our annual 50/50 raffle. Winners will be notified after the May 2 drawing. Remember, your raffle participation will help fund our ministries. Or if you prefer, you can show your support with a simple gift of any size, large or small. Every contribution will make a difference for those we serve.
Thank you for helping the Sisters continue to be a presence of love for those who need us most. That is indeed something we can all celebrate. The Sisters will be praying for you and your Special Intentions!
Sincerely,
Jane Iannucelli, SC
President
May God bless all that you do in the footsteps of St. Elizabeth Seton. And, may God remind you to pray for me. And may you listen to God’s reminders. ~~ ’51 NYF
