Sister Patricia was very loyal to family members and the many friends she made along the way. Her soft Irish wit, often wrapped in a literary quote and a broad gentle smile, was a gift to receive.
Sister Patricia Ann Morgan, Sister Marie Ursula, was born January 17, 1935, in Manhattan. She was one of three children, two daughters and one son of Everett and Julia Harley Morgan. Patricia attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School and Cathedral High School, both in Manhattan. After graduation, she worked for a few years and attended Hunter College before entering the Sisters of Charity of New York on September 8, 1955. Sister Patricia earned a BA in English from College of Mount Saint Vincent and a MSLS in Library Science from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. New York State awarded her Permanent Certification as a Library Media Specialist.
Sister Patricia served in active ministry for forty-one years as a teacher and librarian. She taught elementary grades at Saint Francis Xavier, Manhattan, and Saint Monica, Jamaica. She offered her high school library services at Saint Joseph by-the-Sea, Staten Island, Saint Catharine Academy, Bronx, Saint Gabriel High School, New Rochelle, and Sacred Heart High School, Yonkers.
Her college librarian years were in Elizabeth Seton College, Yonkers, and College of Mount Saint Vincent. During the years that Sister Patricia provided care for a parent, she volunteered in a local public library, and later in the Elizabeth Seton Library of College of Mount Saint Vincent. In 2015, she joined the retirement community at Mount Saint Vincent Convent and in 2021 moved to the retired sisters at the Kittay Senior Apartments in the Bronx. Sister Patricia died August 13, 2023, at her residence in the Kittay Apartments in the sixth-eighth year of commitment as a Sister of Charity of New York.
As expected, Sister Pat loved to read, and she made it a favorite pastime. A book was never far from her hands whether it came with a cover or on the screen of her iPad. During her active years, she was very loyal to family members and the many friends she made along the way. Her soft Irish wit, often wrapped in a literary quote and a broad gentle smile, was a gift to receive.
Sister Pat, God through Jesus promised to prepare a place for us, and that promise has been fulfilled (2Cor 1:20). Go in peace to the eternal joy of God’s presence to which you have been called.

Rest in Peace, Sister Pat. God Bless
My wife’s father and Sister Pat’s mother were brother and sister, so our families were close. Sister Pat was a part of our lives and we have ben friends for over 75 years. I will miss her.
We grew old together, we often ate together, we laughed and cried together. She was a friend and part of our lives. Here is a funny story to illustrate her sense of humor.
I lived in Arizona for a number of years and there was a spoof monthly newspaper that would print a photo each month of someone reading their paper in an unusual situation.
When the Nuns were freed of wearing their Habits, I called Sister Pat and asked her to take a photo of her wearing her habit and reading this spoof paper. She said: “Too late. We burned the Habits last night in the building furnace.” That’s our Sister Pat. We will all miss her.
You will be so very missed Aunt Pat – such a big part of our lives and hearts.

Sr. Pat ran a beautiful and well-stocked library at Sacred Heart HS. She was always there to help and greeted you with a smile! May she rest in peace.

Rest in peace Aunt Pat. You are home now and surrounded by your family. The last one to return home. We will miss you.
My Aunt Pat was my last link to the family’s past. I will miss doing the family Ancestry research history with her. I remember once when we traced our ancestors to a cemetery located in a small Massachusetts town that was close to the Cape. The cemetery was located in the middle of a farmer’s field in a forrest area. That cemetery went back into the 1700’s. Her great grandparents and grandparents were buried there. I remember telling her to wait in the car, while I walked through the woods to find the ancient cemetery. She agreed and when I started walking, she got out of the car and called to me. She said she was coming with me. Later that night, I told her how truly brave I thought she was and she started laughing and told me she wasn’t brave, she was just more afraid to stay alone in the car by herself. We both laughed. We were city people and not the kind to go walking through the woods to find things. I will miss discussing books and our favorite British television shows with her.
I am comforted to know that she is no longer in any pain and she is now truly home.
