Our mission and values arise out of the long and rich tradition of Catholic Social Justice. This tradition encompasses the written teachings of the Church but is broader. It includes the witness of all Christians and people of faith, committed to proclaiming the love of the Gospel and the justice of God’s kingdom, to participate in the public sphere.
Catholic Social Justice is not a theory or an intellectual exercise, but rather how people of faith are called to live the Gospel in a broken and suffering world. For us, as Sisters of Charity of New York, we strive to live out Gospel justice.
This election season, justice-seekers are coming together to consider the many freedoms that serve the common good—not just a single issue—so all of us have what we need to thrive. Protecting our freedoms will help us move closer to a multiracial, multi-faith, inclusive democracy.
How can we know we are voting for candidates who promote the common good? Our friends at NETWORK have created an Equally Sacred Checklist for us to study. Please click on this link to view the Checklist.
One of our freedoms in America today is the ability to vote our conscience. I am asking you to review the checklist and then consider what is your common good.
Thank you and know that our Sisters are praying for you each day.
