The Sisters of Charity of New York believe that each person has a right to safe, affordable, accessible housing. In response to the signs of the times and as followers of Jesus, we have served and walked with those who experience homelessness in varied ministries over many years.

Today, as part of House Our Future New York Campaign, we stand with those in need of housing. We call for more transparency in the progress of moving people out of shelters into permanent housing. We ask Mayor de Blasio to build 24,000 new units of affordable housing and preserve an additional 6,000 apartments for the homeless by 2026.

Each person deserves a safe, secure affordable space to call home. Our children—our future—need a permanent home in which to live.
