Several of us watched Cardinal Dolan’s recent FOX interview, where he referred to Charlie Kirk as “a modern-day St. Paul.” The Cardinal praised Mr. Kirk’s conviction and willingness to speak about the Lord and for being a model for young people looking for meaning in their lives.
We grieve every loss of life and unequivocally condemn the killing of Mr. Kirk.
What Cardinal Dolan may not have known is that many of Mr. Kirk’s words were marked by racist, homophobic, transphobic, and anti-immigrant rhetoric, by violent pro-gun advocacy, and by the promotion of Christian nationalism. These prejudicial words do not reflect the qualities of a saint. To compare Mr. Kirk to St. Paul risks confusing the true witness of the Gospel and giving undue sanction to words and actions that hurt the very people Jesus calls us to love.
Just last week, Cardinal Dolan joined us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the canonization of our Foundress, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Elizabeth’s legacy is not one of exclusion or hatred, but of radical welcome, tireless service, and unwavering love of neighbor. Many of Mr. Kirk’s words stand in stark contrast to the charity and compassion that defined those of Elizabeth Seton.
For generations, the Sisters of Charity of New York have cared for immigrant families arriving with nothing but hope. While our direct service has changed, our commitment to those families endures. They deserve true examples of discipleship, not false prophets.
In this moment, we reaffirm our mission: to walk with all people who are poor and marginalized, to welcome immigrants and refugees, to defend the dignity of LGBTQ+ persons, and to labor for peace in a world saturated with violence. These are the marks of authentic discipleship. These are the qualities of saints.
We urge our Church leadership, including Cardinal Dolan, to lift up witnesses whose lives truly reflect the Gospel of Jesus Christ – lives of humility, justice, compassion, and peace.
We will continue to pray for Mr. Kirk, his family and for all who mourn his loss.
Leadership Team, Sisters of Charity of New York

Thank you for this courageous, gospel-based response to Cardinal Dolan’s outrageous remarks. To presume “he may not have known” is extremely gracious. Does he live under a rock?
This is perhaps the single most moving and respectful reproach of a Cardinal Archbishop ever published. I thank the Sisters for their wisdom and courage. And for the Jesuits of the Church of St Francis Xavier for posting it.
I am so proud of the courage of the Sisters to state publicly what so many of us are talking about privately.
You continue the long tradition of strong, well educated women who are not afraid to speak up when necessary.
Thank you.
I applaud the Sisters for their courageous stand on this matter. I was appalled when I saw that interview. As another poster said “does he live under a rock”?
Thank you, Sisters, for speaking the truth when addressing Cardinal Dolan’s mind boggling remarks. No matter how anyone tries to frame it, Charlie Kirk is no St. Paul. As is often the case, courageous women brought light and truth to a travesty spoken by others.
Thank you, Sisters, for your steadfast faith and commitment to following Jesus and your courage in speaking truth to power.
Thank you, sisters, for speaking truth to power. Having taught with the Jesuits for over 30 years I am not surprised that the Church of St, Francis Xavier has posted it. Guided by the Ignatian charism our students were taught the gospel values you mention in your letter and to always act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with their God as instructed by Micah, a true prophet. If only our diocesan clergy were led by men of conviction rather than men the likes of Cardinal Dolan we would hear more of them speaking and acting courageously and decisively in the face of such disparagement of the true Christian message.
Thank you dear Sisters of Charity for espousing the true meaning of Christ’s teachings and actions. Mr Kirk was far from the same sacred fold, unfortunately! 🙁
I hope that Cardinal Dolan rethinks his words (which carry a lot of weight) on this and alters his public statements about Kirk because to me, this sounds like a throwback to the days of Charles Coughlin, and nobody wants that. Or maybe they do…?
Thank you for responding to Cardinal Dolan’s comments about Charlie Kirk. As usual, Catholic Sisters speak the truth. You make me proud to be Catholic. May God bless you all.
Thank you Sisters of Charity for speaking the truth.
I remain a Catholic (hopefully) because of people like the Sisters. I own a lot to them.
Thank you so much
Thank you sisters I am a devout cradle catholic and I just heard the words of cardinal Dolan calling Charlie Kirk a”modern day saint paul”although I appalled of the brutal assination of Mr. Kirk I am appalled of the Cardinal comparing him to a saint that spread the lord’s word of love and understanding ,and a belief we are all God’s children .Mr Kirk spoke of division and a superior race may God rest his soul.Until the cardinal and other leaders stop playing politics I will be giving my monetary offerings to your charitable crusade .
Roger Brisson
Having been educated by Sisters of Charity at St. Athanasius in the Bronx I am so proud that the spirit of Christian beliefs, devotion to truth and justice which those wonderful sisters / women always demonstrated continues to live in their order in these dark times
Thank you for this thoughtful and inspiring response to these disgusting comments from Dolan. It was perfect
I also want to thank you for this. I actually “shook” when I saw this interview. I told my son I would not let it affect my faith but I was so disappointed. This was especially so as I had seen the unveiling of the beautiful mural recognizing the immigrants at St Patrick’s. I by no means applaud the killing of Mr Kirk but I cannot support the Cardinal’s view.
I was more than shickend that Cardinal Dolan would compare St. Paul to someone who’s words and deeds harmed others. Clearly not aligned with Christ’s mission on earth. Thank you for speaking out for truth. For your continued devotion to Christ through your words and actions.
Yes I was ever so disappointed in the remarks from New York Archbishop. His comparison of Charlie Kirk to St Paul. Left a damning impression of who the Catholic faith calls all to emulate
Cardinal Dolan has been way off on helping foster children and those who remain in the system. He is off on Kirk as well. About time he’s called out on his views NOT jeasus’ views.
Take a long retreat Cardinal and remember where you came from.
Kudos to SCNY for speaking out so courageously against Cardinal Dolan’s hypocrisy. Proud to say that I was taught by SCNJ for 12 years and then attended CMSV before graduating from Seton Hall University
Where is the church today? Cardinal Dolan encouraged Catholics to vote against the ERA amendment, does not speak out against our authoritarian white Christian nationalist administration or gun violence and yet he will go on Fox & Friends and call Kirk a missionary and hero. Only the sisters are willing to speak out and protest as our democracy is being lost.
Sisters, thank you so much for your statement. You are an example of faith and courage for all of us. Peace and all good, S. Patricia McMahon, osf.
Thank you Sisters for calling out Cardinal Dolan!!
We must all stand for the truth and against falsehoods!
Charlie Kirk was no St. Paul!
Mulier fortis! Sr Elizabeth Ann Seton as inspiration and the Sisters of Charity for speaking truth to power. Thank you. Marybeth Zeman
Thank you sisters for speaking out and letting Cardinal Dolan know how wrong he was when he spoke. Charlie Kirk was no Saint Paul. We can mourn his death without turning him into a martyr!
Thank you Sisters of Charity! I grew up in Greensburg PA where Seton Hill University is located. remember the order as actively involved in the education of our community. It’s good to see that the spirit of St Elizabeth Seton lives on.
Tis this leadership team of the Sisters of Charity who should be leading the Church. Time and time again, they step up to the plate with the message of the Gospel. It should be obvious to all that they are the ones (often quietly) who do the heavy lifting of keeping the Gospel alive. Their service to folks everywhere, no matter the need is exemplary. Cardinal Dolan does not deserve to lead with his recent commentary; he has hurt the Church immeasurably. What was he thinking? If ever Confession is in order, he needs to get there ASAP. St. Paul would agree.
My continued disappointment in many Catholic clergy was reaffirmed by Cardinal Dolan’s remarks. As someone who attended Catholic schools in NYC when sisters were the primary educators, I find that they continue to embody what my concept of Catholicism is.
I so appreciate your words concerning Timothy Dolan’s recent statement. I am faltering in my Catholic faith slightly right now and his words didn’t help. Thank you for reaching out with your courageous words.
Very proud of the Sisters of Charity for challenging the messages of Dolan and Kirk. Sr. Grace Troisi was my mentor. In addition, I worked at The Foundling for 27 years along side other great women Sisters Cecilia Schneider and Marilda for example. So happy to see that Charity courage continues. Would enjoy reading the message in The NYTIMES
I recently returned to the RC church, a seeker by nature. The eucharistic mystery and a focus on all that is GOOD drew me back. Cardinal Doyle’s praises of Charlie Kirk on fox News utterly destroyed my faith in the church leadership. A CARDINAL, OMG! POPE leo, hurry up and correct this man. Same goes for Bishop Baron.
We can have diverse political views , of course, but , racism, homophobia, xenophobia ? Never.
Thank you for your articulate response. When I ready Cardinal Dolan’s comments , I felt myself pull away from the Catholic Church. I searched for a Catholic viewpoint that reflected my views. I am comforted to find I am not the only Catholic who found it appalling to categorize Mr Kirk as a modern day St Paul. .
I agree with you whole heartedly. This is not the first time Cardinal Dolan has misinterpreted what people have done or said regarding issues with the Church and the Catholic faith.
When Trump put on the garb of the pontiff, many months ago when a new Pope was elected; he also made light of it!
This to me, was sacrilegious! And totally inappropriate!
Thank you
Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
Thanks to the Sisters of Charity for speaking truth to power. I don’t know which Scriptures Cardinal Dolan selects to advance his own agenda. Maybe during his retirement, he will take a refresher course on The Beatitudes.
Thank you for reminding Catholics that the message of Christ is a message of love, equality, and inclusion. I cannot comprehend our Cardinal Dolan comparing Charlie Kirk to St.Paul.
He needs to apologize to all Catholics for this egregious error.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this response.
You’ve made me proud to be a Catholic, which Cardinal Dolan did not.
This is why leadership in the Church has to be handed to women. This is leadership!
Thank you for the commitment of helping the most needed. These are truly an inspiration for all of christians.
We welcome everyone even those who disagree with us. God bless you sisters.
Thank you Sisters for being courageous enough to speak truth to power.
Cardinal Dolan should print a retraction.
Thank you for your wonderful comments regarding Cardinal Dolan’s recent statements regarding Charlie Kirk. Your insightful words are right on target!
Never.
Thank you,Sisters, for speaking the truth. Your example has always been and continues to be an inspiration.
One again, the strong voices of women speak the clear and rational truth. Thank for this courageous letter, sisters. We applaud you.
Thank you for your articulate response. So important for those Cardinal Dolan recognizes as people with standing in Jesus’ work to correct his uninformed comment on Charlie Kirk. Unfortunately, his statement is on video and will be used for evil purposes.
Sisters, thank you for reminding us of the true Gospel message and reminding us that while we pray and grieve for the victims of violence and their families, such tragic events as the murder of Mr. Kirk do not allow us to ignore the words he spoke or his intersection of Christianity and politics that labeled and emboldened persecution of targeted groups.
Thank you for your courage, continuing, and expanding on the work of St. Elizabeth Seton.
Well said. Thankyou for having the courage to make such a statement. You are not alone. Pat Farrell proud graduate of SVH.
Thank you for daring to stand up to church hierarchy in such a gracious and profound way. Cardinal Dolan enjoys the limelight and is revered by some TV stations. Unfortunately, his theology, understanding of the Catholic Church, appreciation of his mission/vocation as shepherd of the church, and his comprehension of the life of Christ are suspect.
Thank you. The Sisters of Charity have responded with what needed to be said.
Thank you, dear Sisters of Charity of New York. I am so grateful for your clarifying letter to Cardinal Dolan. It goes me hope in our Church, and especially in women’s voices.
Thank you Sisters of Charity for your tempered, thoughtful, Catholic/Christian response to Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s
comments on Charlie Kirk. Cardinal Dolan’s remarks fall
into the category of “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing”.
Thank you, Sisters. The flaws of man are more pronounced when exhibited by a member of the clergy, and especially when that person holds such an elevated rank. The comments made were extremely detrimental to the church’s teachings of Christ.
Thank you for speaking out on behalf of all Catholics who were horrified by what Cardinal Dolan said on Fox and Friends. My reaction lacked the restraint shown in this magnificent response. It was both appropriate and mature, a guide for us all in responding to those we disagree with.
Thank you Sisters for being a great moral compass within the Catholic Church. I was initially disheartened that no one would speak up. You did and it is much appreciated!
Thank you to the Sisters of Charity for making an excellent response to Cardinal Dolans words. The seventeen years of education with the Sisters certainly helped in my development.
Dear Ladies, Thank you for having the courage to speak truth to power. Cardinal Dolan’s admiration for Charlie Kirk does nothing to advance the brotherhood of humanity, nothing to encourage Christian charity, nothing to remind us that we are our brothers’ keepers.
Thank you, Sisters of Charity, for your courage, honesty and integrity in responding to Cardinal Dolan’s absurd comparison. Charlie Kirk was no St. Paul. We need to see more courageous leadership in the Catholic Church – and in our country.
Cardinal Dolan needs to correct his misstatements so that as many ears that heard his inaccuracies in the interview hear his corrections.
This administration has feed the people of these United States one con after another. To reinforce their alternate facts with the cardinal’s ill-informed St. Paul comparisons is to directly contribute to the madness.
Fix it. What would Jesus do? Fix it.
Thank you, Sisters, for your articulate, brave response. You are a courageous, blessed group. God bless all of you.
Let us pray that the Cardinal spoke out of ignorance and did not know what was behind the facade of this “man of faith”. The Pope by the choice of his name has told us that he is not walking away from the Catholic Social Teaching. Let’s pray that the Cardinal is in communion with the Pope on this.
Thank you Sisters for speaking up for those of us who find Cardinal Dolan’s comments highly shameful and offensive.
St Elizabeth Ann Seton and the work of her sisters have affected me since I was a teen in New York City. When I returned to my maiden name, I legally added Elizabeth to my name in solidarity. When I read of the sisters’ response to Cardinal Dolan’s unfortunate words, it renewed my faith, but not my hope. Learning of the order’s “Path to Completion” broke my heart. I’ve spent my 73 years in an eclectic service to God and I understand the desire for a reverent end to ministry. I do trust the Spirit to resurrect care for the neediest in a different guise and I urge all (myself included) to recognize those who truly serve God and to call out those who follow, instead, the darkness of violence and hate. .
I am so uplifted by your charitable but honest statement regarding the Kirk assassination and Cardinal Dolan response. Thank you for renewing my hope in Jesus centered religion.
Just as the early church gave their lives in testimony of upholding values and truths in harmony with those lived by The Christ, kudos to the Sisters of Charity of NY in publicly declaring grave error and dishonor to The Name and one of Christianity’s truest followers, St. Paul the evangelist, by a soul seemingly as lost and miserably misled as the hordes of Americans who would dare give honor to one such as Mr. Kirk. May we individually take note and stand strong with those who still have clear vision of distinction between intrinsic evil and exemplary fairness, equality. compassion. and love of neighbor as thyself
Thank you so much for standing up for the Gospel. You give me hope.
Thank you for a public response to a television presentation that reflected on sainthood. The sisters who taught thousands in New York are giving another lesson in religion. Proud to know you and support you.
So appreciate your eloquent, thoughtful response to Cardinal Dolan’s comments. You remind me of the powerful quote, “Preach the gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.” Blessings on your service!!
Thank you Sisters! No one has said it better. God bless your honesty and courage.
Thank you very much, sisters for being so courageous and taking a stand against cardinal dolan (yes, in lower case letters). People like him hurts the Catholic church. People like you, brings light and love into this troubled world. Thank you for all you do to help others. God bless you.
Dearest Sisters, Thank you for your devotion, grace and bravery in speaking out regarding the
remarks of the Cardinal. My great Aunt was a Sister of Charity and I’m sure she is applauding in heaven.
Thank you Sisters for your response. It represents so many Catholics like myself.
Thank you Sisters for your response. It represents what so many Catholics like myself think and feel.
I had the sisters of charity in high school (st barnabas) and college (mount st vincent) and i agree with every word. I am so proud of the sisters and am so disappointed and disturbed with the words and actions of Cardinal Dolan. He should be ashamed of himself.
Thank you for speaking these truths. I was shocked when I heard Cardinal Dolan’s remarks – stunned that he was woefully uninformed. I’m so appreciative that the Sisters of Charity have set the record straight.
Thank you for this truthful and courageous response to Cardinal Dolan’s misguided remarks. We stand with you.
Thank you sisters for your courage to speak up.
And for your centuries of service.
May God continue to bless your lives in every way possible.
Thank you and may God Bless all of you. I was heartbroken when I saw what Cardinal Dolan said. I so want people to call him out.
Greetings and prayers from Ireland
Thank you sisters for putting into words my thoughts and feelings. I was appalled at the Cardinal’s comments.
The lonely new mural in St Patrick’s of the Apparition at Knock, Ireland entitiled What is Wrong with Peace Love and Understanding seems to be a fig leaf for the Cardinal’s true beliefs. Appalling statement…I hope Pope Bob (Leo) has noticed and is not pleased.
Thank you, Sisters, for speaking out on behalf of immigrants, refugees, and the truly needy among us. Your courage and commitment are an inspiration!
Thank you for this. It gave me hope that others who have the authority and power to say “enough” will follow your lead.
Grateful beyond words for your clarity and courage. Would that leaders in our church follow your example. Thank you!
I, too, felt myself question the Catholic Church upon hearing the remarks from the Cardinal. Thankfully, the Sisters succinctly summarized what a true Catholic should practice: The Gospels of Jesus Christ. Following these Gospels will make us “authentic disciples” as the sisters stated. Thank you to the Sisters for taking a stand.
Couldn’t agree more with the brave and compelling words of the SCNY leadership team in addressing the Cardinal’s hypocrisy. I was taught by SCNJ for 12 years and attended CMSV before graduating from Seton Hall University.
Once again, the holy women, who I am proud to say I am one as an Associate of the Sisters of Charity, ha ve spoken with deep conviction. I say to Sr Donna Dodge and the leadership team, thank you for being the “voice crying out in the wilderness”. And I say loudly to Cardinal Dolan, “Woe to you, Woe to you”
Thank you for sharing this very heartfelt perspective. Your words embody exactly how many of us who believe in Christ feel .You have said it perfectly.
In light of his coziness with Trump, as evil as he is, it’s no surprise he that he admired Kirk. Time to go Cardinal. Thank you Sisters for speaking truth to fiction.
Speaking a truth to Power!
Well written & clearly stated.
Thank you, Sisters.
Your words resonate and hopefully Dolan will hear and respond with insight!
The apostles went into hiding and the women went to the tomb. Mary Magdalen proclaimed the Resurrection. The sisters built the American church through education, healthcare, and social service. In this difficult time, they have the courage to speak truth to power.
I am so so grateful to you all and the example and yes courage shown and lived by you all. We should not need courage to speak the truth and to stand up to cruelty and absence of true Christian values, but we do, you set an example for us all.
Thank you so much for your response to the Cardinal’s characterization of Charlie Kirk as a modern day saint. Thank God for you and all the tireless women who do much of the heavy lifting to share the Good News of Jesus with those most in need.
As a student of the Sisters of Charity who supported and continued to shape my faith, I am proud and grateful for their consistent and generous Christianity. I thank them for their brave, love-filled response to what can only be seen as either an ignorant response by Nolan or a reflection of a person who has drifted far from the Christian journey of Jesus, which he is supposed to represent.
Thank you sisters.
Why do we not have female cardinals or other positions of ‘rank?’ Our sisters are leaders and yet not asked their stance. (please show me I am wrong in my assumption.) I am happy to read your community’s response, and your call in remembering of your mission. The mission is the heart in which people like myself search to see in action to understand better.
I am a fall away Catholic who feels strongly in equal representation of every-ness within the church and within society. I do not search for equal voice representation – like in this moment -yet the spirit guided me to read your response. And I am glad for the spirit.
This is why women should be priests, cardinals popes. They see, understand, care.
Thank you for speaking Truth!
Such brave, thoughtful comments by the sisters. Hopefully m, it won’t fall on deaf ears….
Brilliant! You are women of courage. This Cardinal panders to the same element as his good friend, the current President. Shocking, disgusting, and disappointing. I hope Pope Leo finds the courage to accept this Cardinal’s resignation & appoint someone who is not a politician in clerical garb.
Thank you so much for your gracious and powerful response to Cardinal Dolan’s unfortunate remarks. I hope he hears your statement as a clear call to humbly ground his public speaking in the Gospel, the Beatitudes and the Church’s solid social justice teachings. You reclaim and clarify who deserves the title “saint.”
Thank you for your moral candor, clarity, and leadership.
Thank you Sisters for this courageous rebuttal of Cardinal Dolan’s comments. The teachings of Jesus are nothing like the ones Mr. Kirk and Mr. Vance proclaimed.
Thank you for speaking out. The Sisters of Charity have provided inspiration, hope and have demonstrated courage in this era of unchecked opinions and statements.
We are grateful.
Thank you for your courage, Sisters Of Charity. It was an honor to have worked with you. Don’t stop fighting!
The Sisters of Charity of Mother Seton were my teachers growing up in the Bronx at St. Athanasius Parish. On March 5, 1953, there was a death watch for Joseph Stalin. The radio was on in our 7th grade classroom, as part of our current history exposure. When the annoucement of his death was broatcast, the class broke out cheering. Sr. Mary Thomas walked over to the radio, shut it off with strong purpose and turned to the class. “I don’t ever what to hear you cheer at the death of anyone, no matter how evil you think they might be!” It was one very formative moment in my life, that led to years of reflection. She made me a stronger Christian that afternoon and I shall never forget her.
I can’t thank you enough for your courageous action. You are a model for us Praise to Charlie Kurk’s wife for pardoning his killer. I will continue also to ptay for Charlie and his wife and children. Evil and violence must be counter acted with love.
Your work is truly marvelous and fills me with hope. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the powerful and accurate statement you made in response to the Cardinal’s remarks on the Fox News Network. I was especially heartened to see your words shared by so many news outlets, ensuring that your message reaches and uplifts countless people. Please know that I continue to pray for ALL people — and for you and your remarkable, inspiring community of the Sisters of Charity of New York.
Your words about (and to) Cardinal Dolan regarding the near saint status of Charlie Kirk and his misnomered discipleship of St. Paul are a spot-on example of the exercise of the prophetic dimension of consecrated, religious life. My heartfelt gratitude to your community and my encouragement to stand firm.
Thank you.
Maura Keleher RSCJ
Thank you for speaking as true Christians. The idea of Mr. Kirk being a modern day St. Paul is no where near the truth.
We each bear a responsibility to express our faith in terms that do incite hatred, discrimination, and prejudice. Jesus speaks to us in terms of love, forgiveness and empathy. I, personally, do not feel Mr. Kirk followed that precept. His death is an abomination of all that people of faith hold dear. It is not the way to handle disagreement. Harm to anyone is against all Jesus taught.
Your reminder to all of what the Sisters of Mercy stand for is the best way to educate all of us as to what Christianity is.
Shame on Cardinal Dolan for bowing to a false god in his statement.
Thank you have reaffirmed the beliefs and values of my faith. I was so discouraged that the Cardinal would choose to support this kind evil rhetoric has to be stopped.
Thanks you, Sisters. I was horrified to hear Cardinal Dolan praising a man with such abject views of the other sons and daughters of Jesus Christ. I appreciate your bravery in expressing an alternative perspective.
The Sisters of Charity are ‘seeing beings’ and as a congregation of believers they speak up when they see what F Scott Peck called “People of the Lie”
I mourn for the family’s loss but I cannot ascribe to ANY exhalation of his way of being!!
Bravo my SISTERS in TRUTH!!
I had to watch the Fox News interview for myself to believe what I heard .Not only did Dolan speak of Kirk as being saint like ,he did so with a MOUTHFUL of Kringle cake .The whole interaction was heartbreaking for me to watch as a catholic.I can only hope Pope Leo personally takes this pedofile protecting clergyman to task !
Thank you sisters!! I am inspired by your speaking to power so directly.
I hoping to also see a comment from the Vatican on Dolan’s clearly flawed commentary. While the new Pope seems to be calling out the radical present administration’s absurd anti-Christian policies, the silence on the Dolan fiasco is deafening. Pope Leo: address this clear error, discipline the cardinal….and correct the record of Mr. Kirk’s flawed understanding of actual Christianity.
I am not a member of your, or any religion, but I have felt that Mr. Dolan’s public remarks every since he was given a loud megaphone have been a disgrace to anyone with a moral compass. Thank you for the courage to call him out on his hypocrisy and ignorance of the religion of which he professes to be a leader
Your words and work embody the true spirit of St Paul
As a product of 16 years of Catholic education ,11 of which were with The Sisters of Charity ,I Applaud your courage and faith filled commitment to truth.
Sisters you are shining beacons of light and hope in what is becoming a very dark chapter of American history.
May the Lord bless you all for speaking out and courageously defending the second of the two greatest commandments . We need to hold to the truth
I, too, was appalled and embarrassed by Cardinal Dolan’s remarks on Charlie Kirk’s death.
My Catholic faith, which I have practiced for 75 years, is in Christ, but not always in the human beings who purportedly represent Him.
However, despite my deep disappointment in the Cardinal, I am so uplifted by this response from the Sisters of Charity! Clearly, their understanding of the message of Jesus far surpasses that of the man in the red hat.
A million thanks to you, dear Sisters, for representing the true spirit of Christianity, both in words and in deeds!
Thank you, Sisters, for this clear denouncement of Cardinal Dolan’s remarks. You have presented the situation with such clarity and courage. You also sent the message on September 24, the Feast of Our Lady of Ransom, also known as Our Lady of Mercy. She is often depicted with peoples of every sort under her robe of protection.
May I add that we all start to refer to each other as “images of God,”
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is bursting with pride for all of you.
Thank you again, In Christ,
Peace,
Maureen Crossen (Pgh)
Thank you, sisters, for so eloquently expressing my reaction to Cardinal Dolan’s remarks on Fox News and for your continued commitment to your order’s mission. Once again, I find religious sisters speaking Gospel values and Catholic beliefs more clearly and courageously than many of our US bishops.
Thank you, Sisters! What is happening in our Church? Cardinal Nolan’s comments, Bishop Barron’s clueless comments. I am so disappointed that leaders in our Church now cowardly pander to Fox News. Such a shame!
Thank god for the sister
Thank you so very much. I’m sorry that time after time it falls on our Sisters to counter the foibles of Church leadership.
What would we do without the courage of women!! Thank you Sisters of Charity for reminding us of the message of Christ.
Thank you for speaking out! I was deeply troubled by Cardinal Dolan’s praise of Charlie Kirk’. I had a moment of spiritual and ideological crisis. “Is this what the Catholic faith stands for?” Then I kept repeating to myself: Jesus is The Way, THE TRUTH, and The Life!
Sisters, thank you so much for your statement. It has renewed my faith in Catholic teaching. Obviously from all the eloquent comments before me in this post , I am not alone. Blessings to all.
Thank you for well articulated response to Cardinal Dolan’s ill advised comments. The current lack of tolerance and love for those who not meet traditional white Christian norms is extremely disturbing.
Dear Sisters, you make me proud of our community: sweetness, kindness, simple laying out of truth. Thank you!! Peter Castaldi
Thank you Sisters of Charity for clarifying the difference between saints and those who are not.
I am incredulous that Cardinal Dolan cannot discern the difference.
