The 33 Pioneer Sisters of Charity of New York storytelling series brings to life the stories of the courageous women who paved the way-each one read by a Sister of Charity.

Our sixth video features the story of Sister Ann Borromeo Obermeyer (1801-1884), read by Sister Carol De Angelo, SC.

As you listen, imagine what Sister Ann Borromeo would say today, after a lifetime spent caring for immigrant children orphaned by cholera, poverty, and neglect? Many of those same children would be torn from their homes and deported in today’s America. The country that once welcomed the poor now turns its back—on the very children she held, fed, and fought for. Her faithful witness still asks us: Who are we becoming?

Beginning May 14, 2025 and continuing weekly through December 31, 2025—the anniversary of our incorporation and the election of Elizabeth Boyle as the first Mother of the new Congregation—we will honor one Pioneer each week. You can follow along on our YouTube Channel.
